FAQs

How can I ensure that my child gets a spot in the state-funded 4-year-old PreK program at St. Joan of Arc?

To be eligible, your child must be a resident of Iowa, and be four years old (but not yet five years old) on or before September 15 of the school year you plan to enroll. Spots fill up quickly, so the best way to guarantee you get a spot is to enroll in our 3-year old Preschool the year prior to your child’s eligibility for the state-funded 4-year old PreK. All students enrolled in the 3-year old Preschool program (either the 2-day a week or the 3-day a week) are guaranteed placement in our 4-year old PreK the next school year.

My child has special needs. How can find out if St. Joan of Arc is a good fit?

Our faculty and staff are equipped to serve students with a Level I Individualized Education Plan (IEP) during the school day on site at St. Joan of Arc. Students in need of speech services may also be served on site at St. Joan of Arc. St. Joan of Arc consults closely with the Mississippi Bend Area Education Agency (AEA) as well as with Pleasant Valley Community School District to ensure that we are meeting the needs of all students. Students who have a diagnosed need but do not qualify for an IEP might be served through accommodations documented in a 504 plan, through specialized intervention, or via differentiated instructional methods. We recommend that you make an appointment with the school principal to take a personalized tour of the campus and to discuss the specific needs of your child before deciding to enroll.

Does St. Joan of Arc have an enrichment program?

Enrichment opportunities for students in grades K–8 are embedded in the classroom environment, where teachers deliver targeted learning extensions to support advanced understanding and skill development. In addition, students may explore their interests through a variety of extracurricular opportunities, including choir, band, Chess Club, and the optional LEGO Robotics club.

Does St. Joan of Arc have a hot lunch program?

Yes. St. Joan of Arc provides a nutritious, balanced hot meal each day to any K-8 student who wishes to order lunch in the morning. Lunches are also provided and included in the fee for full-time St. Joan of Arc Little Lancer Care Preschool and PreK students. A monthly lunch calendar detailing the menu each day is published and posted on our website. A paper copy of the lunch calendar is also sent home with each family.
